Assignment 1

Website Design Note

This website serves as a personal academic and professional portfolio built using RStudio and Quarto, and hosted through GitHub Pages. Rather than using the site solely as a storage space for coursework, I designed it to showcase my work across social data, urban systems, energy, and environmental policy in an accessible format.

I built the site on Quarto’s Journal theme, customizing the styling with a custom CSS file. Instead of a standard stark white background, I opted for a warm off-white tone to give the site a softer, more tailored feel. I paired this with a muted dark green navigation bar and accent elements to subtly echo my research focus on environmental sustainability while keeping the layout clean and professional. Cards with rounded corners, thin borders, and subtle hover effects help break up content visually without adding unnecessary distraction.

The top navigation bar is split into four primary sections: Home, Research, Teaching, and CV. The Home page introduces my background and core research interests, while the Research and Teaching sections organize my broader academic projects. I linked my CV directly in the main menu for easy access, and I created an Assignments dropdown to store this design note and future coursework as the semester progresses.
